ते तं दृष्ट्वा हयं राजन् संप्रहृष्टतनूरुहाः ॥
अनादृत्य महात्मानं कपिलं कालचोदिताः ॥
संक्रुद्धाः समधावन्त अश्वग्रहणकाङ्क्षिणः ॥
ततः क्रुद्धो महाराज कपिलो मुनिसत्तमः ॥
वासुदेवेति यं प्राहुः कपिलं मुनिसत्तमम् ॥
स चक्षुर् विवृतं कृत्वा तेजस् तेषु समुत्सृजन् ॥
ददाह सुमहातेजा मन्दबुद्धीन् स सागरान् ॥
तान् दृष्ट्वा भस्मसाद् भूतान् नारदः सुमहातपाः ॥
सगरान्तिकम् आगच्छत् तच् च तस्मै न्यवेदयत् ॥
स तच् छ्रुत्वा वचो घोरं राजा मुनिमुखोद्गतम् ॥
मुहूर्तं विमना भूत्वा स्थाणोर् वाक्यम् अचिन्तयत् ॥
आत्मानम् आत्मनाश्वास्य हयम् एवान्वचिन्तयत् ॥
अंशुमन्तं समाहूय असमज्ञःसुतं तदा ॥
पौत्रं भरतशार्दूल इदं वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥
षष्टिस् तानि सहस्राणि पुत्राणाम् अमितौजसाम् ॥
कापिलं तेज आसाद्य मत्कृते निधनं गताः ॥
तव चापि पिता तात परित्यक्तो मयानघ ॥
धर्मं संरक्षमाणेन पौराणां हितम् इच्छता ॥

译文

Lomasha said: "Seeing this horse, O king, they were filled with delight; but, disregarding the great-souled Kapila and driven by time, enraged, they rushed forward, wishing to seize the horse. Then, great king, the best of sages, Kapila -- whom they call Vasudeva -- grew angry. Opening his eyes and releasing his radiance upon them, he, of immense splendor, burned the foolish sons of Sagara to ashes. Seeing that they had become ashes, Narada, great in austerity, came to Sagara and told him this. Hearing this terrible word from the sage's mouth, the king was disheartened for a moment and recalled the words of Sthanu. Having consoled himself, he turned his thoughts to the horse. Then he summoned Amshuman, the son of Asamanjas, his grandson, O tiger among the Bharatas, and said: 'Sixty thousand of my sons of measureless splendor, having encountered the radiance of Kapila, perished because of me. And your father too, child, the blameless one, was cast out by me, because I was protecting dharma and desired the welfare of the citizens.'"

注释

Kapila here is directly linked with Vasudeva: his gaze burns not with an ordinary man's anger, but with the power of divine presence. Disrespect toward a saint becomes an encounter with the fire of truth.
