译文

Having received this word from the great Kapila, Amshuman took the horse and came to the sacrificial ground of the great Sagara. Having bowed at the feet of the great Sagara and been smelled by him upon the head, he told him everything -- what he had seen and heard, how the sons of Sagara had perished, and that the horse had arrived at the sacrificial ground. Hearing this, King Sagara set aside the grief born of his sons, honored Amshuman, and completed the sacrifice. Having finished the sacrifice, Sagara, honored by all the gods, accepted the ocean, the abode of Varuna, as his son. Having ruled the kingdom for a long time, the lotus-eyed one passed the burden to his grandson and then departed for heaven. The righteous Amshuman likewise ruled the earth girdled by the ocean, as his grandfather had. A son was born to him, Dilipa, knower of dharma. Having entrusted the kingdom to him, Amshuman too completed his course. Dilipa, hearing of the great destruction of his forefathers, suffered from grief and pondered their fate. He made a very great effort to bring down the Ganga, but, striving to the utmost of his strength, he could not bring her down. A glorious son was born to him, devoted to dharma, known as Bhagiratha, truthful in speech and free of envy. Having anointed the great Bhagiratha, devoted to truth and dharma, to the kingship, Dilipa withdrew to the forest and, through union with the perfection of austerity, in time attained heaven."
