The son of the Krittikas, honored by the thirty gods, greeted Maheshvara and shone like the sun with scattered rays. When the enemies had been destroyed and Skanda had gone before Maheshvara, Purandara embraced Mahasena and said: 'Skanda, by you has this Mahisha been slain, he who received a boon from Brahma, before whom the gods became as mere straw, O best of conquerors. You have quelled this tormentor of the gods, O mighty-armed one. In battle you have slain a hundred danavas equal to Mahisha, enemies of the gods who had long afflicted us; other danavas were devoured by the hundreds by your companions. You are unconquerable in battle by any foe, like the very consort of Uma. This shall be renowned as your first deed; your fame in the three worlds shall be imperishable, and the gods shall be obedient to you, O son of a god.' Having said 'Mahasena,' Shachipati departed together with the gods, with the leave of the blessed Tryambaka. Rudra went to Bhadravata, and the dwellers of heaven likewise dispersed; Rudra said to the gods, 'Look upon Skanda as upon myself.' Having slain the hosts of danavas and honored by the great seers, the son of Fire conquered the whole of the three worlds in a single day. Whoever reads this birth of Skanda with focused attention shall attain prosperity here and reach closeness to Skanda's world.

The fruit of reading completes the cycle: remembrance of Skanda's birth and victory itself becomes a practice of drawing near to his world.
