ततः प्रहस्तः सहसा समभ्येत्य विभीषणम् ॥
गदया ताडयाम् आस विनद्य रणकर्कशः ॥
स तयाभिहतो धीमान् गदया भीमवेगया ॥
नाकम्पत महाबाहुर् हिमवान् इव सुस्थिरः ॥
ततः प्रगृह्य विपुलां शतघण्टां विभीषणः ॥
अभिमन्त्र्य महाशक्तिं चिक्षेपास्य शिरः प्रति ॥
पतन्त्या स तया वेगाद् राक्षसो ऽशनिनादया ॥
हृतोत्तमाङ्गो ददृशे वातरुग्ण इव द्रुमः ॥

译文

Prahasta suddenly attacked Vibhishana and struck him with his mace, roaring in battle. But Vibhishana, struck by the terrible mace, did not waver, like the steadfast Himalaya. He took up a great shakti hung with a hundred bells, consecrated it with a mantra, and hurled it at Prahasta's head. The rakshasa, struck by that lightning-like shakti, was deprived of his head and became like a tree broken by the wind.

注释

Vibhishana proves his devotion to Rama not with words but by fighting his former allies. Renouncing adharma demands breaking with what once seemed one's own.
