And Keshava, endowed with great intelligence and radiant with beauty, soon came out onto the broad street, which had earlier been swept and sprinkled with water and was fit for use by the greatest of kings. And as this scion of the Dashariha line set out on his way, cymbals sounded and conches were blown, while other instruments poured forth their music. And a multitude of young heroes, the finest in the world in valor and possessed of lion-like prowess, moved forward, surrounding Sauri's chariot. And thousands of soldiers, clad in many-colored garments, bearing swords, spears, and axes, walked ahead of Keshava. And as many as five hundred elephants and thousands of chariots followed the unconquered hero of the Dashariha line as he went. And, O scourge of enemies, all the inhabitants of the capital, of every age and both sexes, eager to behold Janardana, came out into the streets.

The fragment 5.94.16-20 develops the central theme of the Udyoga-parva: the effort for peace is already underway against the backdrop of an unavoidable war. Key themes: war. Dharma is revealed here through speech, the choice of an embassy, faithfulness to promises, and the responsibility of kings for the consequences of their decisions.
