译文

"Keep the peace, O head of the Bharata race, and do not yield to anger. Having given the Pandavas their rightful share of their father's kingdom, enjoy, together with your sons, O scourge of your foes, happiness and splendor, and may all your desires be crowned with success. Know that Yudhishthira always walks the path that the righteous walk. You also know, O king, how Yudhishthira has conducted himself toward you and your sons. Though you wished to burn him alive and drive him from human dwelling, he still returned and again places his trust in you. Again, did you and your sons not banish him to Indraprastha? While there, he subdued all the kings of the earth, and yet he looked upon you, O king, without ever seeking to disregard you. Though he behaved in this way, the son of Suvala, wishing to strip him of his dominions, wealth, and possessions, resorted to the highly effective device of dice. Reduced to such a state, and even as he watched Draupadi dragged into the assembly, Yudhishthira, of boundless soul, still did not swerve from the duties of a kshatriya. As for me, O Bharata, I wish you well, just as I wish them well. For the sake of virtue, gain, and happiness, make peace, O king, and do not allow the population of the earth to be destroyed by mistaking evil for good and good for evil. Restrain your sons, O king, who out of greed have gone too far. As for the sons of Pritha, they stand equally ready to serve you, whether in submission or in battle. Whatever, O scourge of your foes, seems to you conducive to your own good — accept it!' Vaishampayana continued: 'All the rulers of the earth present there applauded these words of Keshava heartily within themselves, yet none of them dared say anything in the presence of Duryodhana.'
