译文

O you of great splendor, the father of this young man—that is, my son—was devoured by Garuda. Over this we grieve. But what is worse, O lord, is that the son of Vinata, as he departed these regions, said: "In a month I shall devour this Sumukha too." Surely it will come to pass as he has said, for we know with whom we must deal. Therefore, at these words of Suparna we have become despondent!" Kanva continued: "Then Matali said to Aryaka: "I have devised a plan. This grandson of yours has been chosen by me as my son-in-law. Let this Naga, then, accompanying me and Narada, come to the Lord of Heaven, the chief of the gods, O best of Nagas. Then I shall try to place obstacles in Suparna's path, and as a last resort we shall learn the span of life allotted to Sumukha."
