कालपक्वम् इदं मन्ये सर्वक्षत्रं जनार्दन ॥
सर्वे ह्य् अनुसृता मोहात् पार्थिवाः सह मन्त्रिभिः ॥
भीष्मस्याथ वचः श्रुत्वा दाशार्हः पुष्करेक्षणः ॥
भीष्मद्रोणमुखान् सर्वान् अभ्यभाषत वीर्यवान् ॥
सर्वेषां कुरुवृद्धानां महान् अयम् अतिक्रमः ॥
प्रसह्य मन्दम् ऐश्वर्ये न नियच्छत यन् नृपम् ॥
तत्र कार्यम् अहं मन्ये प्राप्तकालम् अरिंदमाः ॥
क्रियमाणे भवेच् छ्रेयस् तत् सर्वं शृणुतानघाः ॥
प्रत्यक्षम् एतद् भवतां यद् वक्ष्यामि हितं वचः ॥
भवताम् आनुकूल्येन यदि रोचेत भारताः ॥

tatra kāryam ahaṃ manye prāptakālam ariṃdamāḥ ||
kriyamāṇe bhavec chreyas tat sarvaṃ śṛṇutānaghāḥ ||
pratyakṣam etad bhavatāṃ yad vakṣyāmi hitaṃ vacaḥ ||
bhavatām ānukūlyena yadi roceta bhāratāḥ ||
‘I think, O Janardana, that the whole order of kshatriyas has ripened for its time: all the lords of the earth together with their counselors have followed him out of delusion.’ Hearing Bhishma's word, the mighty lotus-eyed Dashārha addressed them all, with Bhishma and Drona at their head: ‘Great is this transgression of all the elders of the Kurus: you do not forcibly restrain this foolish ruler in his power.
