"Even considering your own dharma, you should not waver: there is no greater good for a kshatriya than a righteous battle. Fortunate are the kshatriyas, O son of Pritha, to whom such a battle comes of itself, an open gate to heaven. But if you do not undertake this righteous struggle, then, abandoning your own dharma and your honor, you will incur sin. People will forever speak of your dishonor, and for a man of honor, dishonor is worse than death. The great chariot-warriors will think that you withdrew from battle out of fear; those who once held you in high esteem will come to regard you with contempt. Your enemies will say many unspeakable things, disparaging your strength; what could be more painful than that? Slain, you will attain heaven; victorious, you will rule the earth. Therefore arise, O son of Kunti, resolved to fight. Having made pleasure and pain, gain and loss, victory and defeat all equal, engage in battle: thus you will not incur sin."

Krishna does not reduce his teaching to the immortality of the soul alone: he brings Arjuna back to his own svadharma. For a kshatriya, righteous battle is not personal aggression, so long as it is performed without attachment to victory or gain.
