Sanjaya said: "Having seen the great, impenetrable and utterly terrible krauncha formation arrayed by Partha of boundless radiance, your son approached the teacher, Kripa, Shalya, Saumadatti, Vikarna, Ashvatthaman, his brothers headed by Duhshasana, and the multitude of other heroes who had come for battle, O Bharata. Encouraging them, your son spoke these words in time: all of them were armed with various weapons and knew the shastras and astras."

Duryodhana sees the Pandava formation as a real threat and at once rallies his chief forces around himself. His energy is great, but it is still directed toward holding power through fear and calculation.
