अविध्यद् एनं निशितैः शराग्रैर्; अलम्बुसो राजवरार्श्यशृङ्गिः ॥
तं वै चतुर्भिः प्रतिविध्य वीरो; नप्ता शिनेर् अभ्यपतद् रथेन ॥
अन्वागतं वृष्णिवरं निशम्य; मध्ये रिपूणां परिवर्तमानम् ॥
प्रावर्तयन्तं कुरुपुंगवांश् च; पुनः पुनश् च प्रणदन्तम् आजौ ॥
नाशक्नुवन् वारयितुं वरिष्ठं; मध्यंदिने सूर्यम् इवातपन्तम् ॥
न तत्र कश् चिन्न् अविषण्ण आसीद्; ऋते राजन् सोमदत्तस्य पुत्रात् ॥
स ह्य् आददानो धनुर् उग्रवेगं; भूरिश्रवा भारत सौमदत्तिः ॥
दृष्ट्वा रथान् स्वान् व्यपनीयमानान्; प्रत्युद्ययौ सात्यकिं योद्धुम् इच्छन् ॥

anvāgataṃ vṛṣṇivaraṃ niśamya; madhye ripūṇāṃ parivartamānam ||
prāvartayantaṃ kurupuṃgavāṃś ca; punaḥ punaś ca praṇadantam ājau ||
nāśaknuvan vārayituṃ variṣṭhaṃ; madhyaṃdine sūryam ivātapantam ||
na tatra kaś cinn aviṣaṇṇa āsīd; ṛte rājan somadattasya putrāt ||
sa hy ādadāno dhanur ugravegaṃ; bhūriśravā bhārata saumadattiḥ ||
dṛṣṭvā rathān svān vyapanīyamānān; pratyudyayau sātyakiṃ yoddhum icchan ||
At that moment, the truth-vowed Satyaki, the hero of Shini, hurled himself upon the forefather, striking down foes with his strong bow and shaking the army of your son. All your ranks, O Bharata, could not hold him back then: he moved among silvery horses and rained arrows from his mighty bow. Alambusha, the finest of kings, son of Rishyashringa, wounded him with sharp-pointed arrows; but the hero, grandson of Shini, answered him with four arrows and, on his chariot, rushed forward. Learning that the finest of the Vrishnis had come, was ranging in the midst of foes, again and again roaring in battle, and turning back the finest of the Kurus, no one could stop this supreme warrior, who blazed like the midday sun. There all were dispirited, O king, except for the son of Somadatta. Bhurishravas Saumadatti, O Bharata, took up his fearsome bow and, seeing his chariots being driven back, advanced against Satyaki, eager for battle.

When Bhishma sets out against Bhima, Satyaki seizes the direction of the battle and himself becomes a midday sun. But even Satyaki’s strength meets its counter-limit: Bhurishravas does not lose heart, and comes forward for a duel of his own.
