Horses whose riders had been slain ran riderless in every direction; others, struck by blows of arrows, leaped up and fell among the warriors of your side and of the foe, O bull of the Bharatas. Everywhere collisions of racing horses, elephants, and chariots could be seen, O lord of men. With maces, swords, javelins, and well-jointed arrows the kshatriyas, driven on by time, struck one another down. Other heroes, skilled in hand-to-hand combat, grappled in many ways in the fight, like iron bars locked together; with fists, knees, and the palms of their hands, O lord of men, your warriors and the Pandavas struck one another."
