Having received his brother's command, Vrikodara hastened forth, advancing with a lion's roar and terrifying all the kings, with tremendous force, O king, like the ocean at the turn of the tide. Following him were Satyadhriti, the warlike Saucitti, Shrenimana, Vasudana, and Abhibhu, son of the king of Kashi; the great chariot-warriors, the sons of Draupadi, led by Abhimanyu; the valiant Kshatradeva and Kshatradharma; and Nila, lord of Anupa, with his own army. With a great array of chariots they surrounded Haidimba. With six thousand ever-maddened striking elephants they together guarded Ghatotkacha, lord of the rakshasas. With a great lion's roar, the din of chariot rims, and the clatter of hooves they shook the earth. Hearing the sound of their approach, your army, great king, troubled by fear of Bhimasena, turned back with pallid faces, abandoning Ghatotkacha.

Bhima does not come alone: around Ghatotkacha a living wall quickly forms of kin, allies, chariots, and elephants. The strength of the Pandavas shows itself here as the readiness to defend one's own at the needed moment, never leaving him to face the enemy alone.
