अलम्बुसं तथा युद्धे विचरन्तम् अभीतवत् ॥
हैडिम्बः प्रययौ तूर्णं विव्याध च शितैः शरैः ॥
तयोः प्रतिभयं युद्धम् आसीद् राक्षससिंहयोः ॥
कुर्वतोर् विविधा मायाः शक्रशम्बरयोर् इव ॥

译文
Alambusa, so fearlessly roaming the battle, was swiftly overtaken by the son of Hidimba [Ghatotkacha] and pierced with sharp arrows. Between those two lion-like rakshasas there raged a terrifying battle — weaving manifold illusions, as though it were Shakra and Shambara.

A rakshasa meets a rakshasa: Ghatotkacha, himself born of a rakshasi, meets Alambusa with the very weapon Alambusa wields — illusion. It is telling that the epic likens their battle to the clash of Indra with the asura Shambara, seeing here too a reflection of the age-old struggle. The verse teaches that even in those who by birth partake of darkness, service to dharma can awaken: Ghatotkacha, son of a rakshasi, stands on the side of truth, for it is not origin but the path chosen that decides whom strength shall serve.
