ततो दुर्योधनो राजा राधेयं त्वरितो ऽब्रवीत् ॥
अर्जुनं वीक्ष्य संयान्तं जयद्रथरथं प्रति ॥
अयं स वैकर्तन युद्धकालो; विदर्शयस्वात्मबलं महात्मन् ॥
यथा न वध्येत रणे ऽर्जुनेन; जयद्रथः कर्ण तथा कुरुष्व ॥

ayaṃ sa vaikartana yuddhakālo; vidarśayasvātmabalaṃ mahātman ||
yathā na vadhyeta raṇe 'rjunena; jayadrathaḥ karṇa tathā kuruṣva ||
Having overtaken Saindhava, who stood in front, Bibhatsu [Arjuna] fixed his gaze upon him with eyes blazing with wrath, as though incinerating him. Then king Duryodhana, hastening, seeing Arjuna riding up toward the chariot of Jayadratha, said to Radheya: "Here it is, Vaikartana, the hour of battle; show your own strength, great-souled one. So that Jayadratha not be struck down in battle by Arjuna — Karna, so do."

A single glance from Arjuna, blazing with wrath, strikes fear — and Duryodhana at once cries out to Karna. It is telling that the decisive moment is named outright: "here it is, the hour of battle." The verse teaches that the crucial instant reveals on whom hope truly rests; and a leader whose reliance is on one man calls his name in the fateful hour, for the whole fate of his cause hangs upon a single arm.
