And the fierce clamor of bowstrings and arrows was heard there, O venerable one. Then Drona swiftly appeared there in the encounter. And Duryodhana, rejoicing, taking up his firm bow, crying "stay, stay!" to the king, advanced upon the Pandava. The Panchalas, eager to slay the king, came swiftly forth to meet him; Drona met them, seeking to protect the best of the Kurus, as one striking clouds driven by a fierce wind, as the sun scatters them with its rays. Then, O king, there was a great battle, vastly swelling the realm of Yama, as your men and the enemies, gathered together, met in eagerness for combat.

The falsely-reported-dead Duryodhana rises with the cry "stay, stay!" - the false news of his death is disproved - and Drona hastens to shield him. It is telling that the battle is called one "vastly increasing [the realm of Yama]": each new clash only swells the abode of death further. The verse teaches that joy over a supposed victory is deceptive so long as the enemy has not truly fallen; and the persistence of both hosts, meeting again and again, brings no peace closer but only multiplies the harvest of death.
