दिवं प्राप्तं वासवो ऽथाश्विनौ च; रुद्रादित्या वसवश् चाथ विश्वे ॥
प्रत्युद्ययुर् मुनयश् चापि सिद्धा; गन्धर्वमुख्याश् च सहाप्सरोभिः ॥
ततो राजन् भगवान् उग्रतेजा; नारायणः प्रभवश् चाव्ययश् च ॥
योगाचार्यो रोदसी व्याप्य लक्ष्म्या; स्थानं प्राप स्वं महात्माप्रमेयम् ॥
ततो देवैर् ऋषिभिश् चापि कृष्णः; समागतश् चारणैश् चैव राजन् ॥
गन्धर्वाग्र्यैर् अप्सरोभिर् वराभिः; सिद्धैः साध्यैश् चानतैः पूज्यमानः ॥
ते वै देवाः प्रत्यनन्दन्त राजन्; मुनिश्रेष्ठा वाग्भिर् आनर्चुर् ईशम् ॥
गन्धर्वाश् चाप्य् उपतस्थुः स्तुवन्तः; प्रीत्या चैनं पुरुहूतो ऽभ्यनन्दत् ॥

gandharvāgryair apsarobhir varābhiḥ; siddhaiḥ sādhyaiś cānataiḥ pūjyamānaḥ ||
te vai devāḥ pratyanandanta rājan; muniśreṣṭhā vāgbhir ānarcur īśam ||
gandharvāś cāpy upatasthuḥ stuvantaḥ; prītyā cainaṃ puruhūto 'bhyanandat ||
Him as he reached heaven did Vasava and the Ashvins, the Rudras, Adityas, Vasus and Vishvedevas, sages, Siddhas, and the chief Gandharvas with the Apsaras all come forth to receive. Then, O king, the Lord of terrible splendor, Narayana — origin and imperishable, master of yoga — filling heaven and earth with radiance, the immeasurable, reached his own eternal abode. Krishna was received there by gods and sages, by Charanas, O king, by the chief Gandharvas and the beautiful Apsaras, by Siddhas and Sadhyas bowing in reverence, honored by them all. Those gods acclaimed him, O king; the foremost of sages glorified the Lord with their words; the Gandharvas stood before him singing praises; and Puruhuta welcomed him with love.

The veil falls away and the truth stands revealed: the one who has departed is no king and no hero, but "Narayana, the origin and the imperishable, the master of yoga" — the Supreme Himself, returning to his own abode. Gods, sages and Siddhas receive Him as their Lord, for what appeared to the earth as the death of a man is in heaven the solemn return of God to Himself. Thus the entire narrative of the Mausala-parva concludes not in the darkness of destruction but in the radiance of this homecoming. The verse teaches that Krishna is the Supreme Lord Himself, Narayana, who had but descended into the world in human form, and that His departure is the return to His eternal abode; and that for one who has grasped this truth, the slaughter of the Yadavas and the "death" of Krishna are not a tragedy but the conclusion of the divine play, crowned by the glorification of the Lord by the entire host of heaven.
