पाण्डवा धृतराष्ट्रेण प्रेषिता वारणावतम् ॥
उत्सवे विहरिष्यन्ति धृतराष्ट्रस्य शासनात् ॥
स त्वं रासभयुक्तेन स्यन्दनेनाशुगामिना ॥
वारणावतम् अद्यैव यथा यासि तथा कुरु ॥
तत्र गत्वा चतुःशालं गृहं परमसंवृतम् ॥
आयुधागारम् आश्रित्य कारयेथा महाधनम् ॥
शणसर्जरसादीनि यानि द्रव्याणि कानि चित् ॥
आग्नेयान्य् उत सन्तीह तानि सर्वाणि दापय ॥
pāṇḍavā dhṛtarāṣṭreṇa preṣitā vāraṇāvatam ||
utsave vihariṣyanti dhṛtarāṣṭrasya śāsanāt ||
sa tvaṃ rāsabhayuktena syandanenāśugāminā ||
vāraṇāvatam adyaiva yathā yāsi tathā kuru ||
tatra gatvā catuḥśālaṃ gṛhaṃ paramasaṃvṛtam ||
āyudhāgāram āśritya kārayethā mahādhanam ||
śaṇasarjarasādīni yāni dravyāṇi kāni cit ||
āgneyāny uta santīha tāni sarvāṇi dāpaya ||
"The Pandavas have been sent by Dhritarashtra to Varanavata; they will make merry at the festival by his command. Go this very day to Varanavata on a swift chariot yoked with donkeys — see to it. Once there, have a most secluded and costly four-halled house built near the armory; and have all manner of combustible material — hemp, sarja-resin, and the rest — brought there."

Here evil reveals its calculation and haste. Telling is the urgency — "go this very day" — the villain hastens to get ahead of his victims, so the trap will be ready before they arrive. Telling too is the location: a secluded house near the armory — seclusion so that no one interferes, the armory a plausible pretext for the combustible materials being gathered. Here we see how meticulously evil arranges its affairs: treachery is never careless, it is calculating and provident. Thus scripture reveals the cold deliberation behind this crime — and the guilt of its plotters weighs all the heavier for it.
