वासुदेव उवाच
आनर्तनगरं मुक्तं ततो ऽहम् अगमं तदा ॥
महाक्रतौ राजसूये निवृत्ते नृपते तव ॥
अपश्यं द्वारकां चाहं महाराज हतत्विषम् ॥
निःस्वाध्यायवषट्कारां निर्भूषणवरस्त्रियम् ॥
अनभिज्ञेयरूपाणि द्वारकोपवनानि च ॥
दृष्ट्वा शङ्कोपपन्नो ऽहम् अपृच्छं हृदिकात्मजम् ॥
अस्वस्थनरनारीकम् इदं वृष्णिपुरं भृषम् ॥
किम् इदं नरशार्दूल श्रोतुम् इच्छामहे वयम् ॥
एवम् उक्तस् तु स मया विस्तरेणेदम् अब्रवीत् ॥
रोधं मोक्षं च शाल्वेन हार्दिक्यो राजसत्तम ॥
ततो ऽहं कौरवश्रेष्ठ श्रुत्वा सर्वम् अशेषतः ॥
विनाशे शाल्वराजस्य तदैवाकरवं मतिम् ॥
ततो ऽहं भरतश्रेष्ठ समाश्वास्य पुरे जनम् ॥
राजानम् आहुकं चैव तथैवानकदुन्दुभिम् ॥
सर्ववृष्णिप्रवीरांश् च हर्षयन्न् अब्रुवं तदा ॥
अप्रमादः सदा कार्यो नगरे यादवर्षभाः ॥
शाल्वराजविनाशाय प्रयातं मां निबोधत ॥
नाहत्वा तं निवर्तिष्ये पुरीं द्वारवतीं प्रति ॥
सशाल्वं सौभनगरं हत्वा द्रष्टास्मि वः पुनः ॥
त्रिसामा हन्यताम् एषा दुन्दुभिः शत्रुभीषणी ॥

ānartanagaraṃ muktaṃ tato 'ham agamaṃ tadā ||
mahākratau rājasūye nivṛtte nṛpate tava ||
apaśyaṃ dvārakāṃ cāhaṃ mahārāja hatatviṣam ||
niḥsvādhyāyavaṣaṭkārāṃ nirbhūṣaṇavarastriyam ||
anabhijñeyarūpāṇi dvārakopavanāni ca ||
dṛṣṭvā śaṅkopapanno 'ham apṛcchaṃ hṛdikātmajam ||
asvasthanaranārīkam idaṃ vṛṣṇipuraṃ bhṛṣam ||
kim idaṃ naraśārdūla śrotum icchāmahe vayam ||
evam uktas tu sa mayā vistareṇedam abravīt ||
rodhaṃ mokṣaṃ ca śālvena hārdikyo rājasattama ||
tato 'haṃ kauravaśreṣṭha śrutvā sarvam aśeṣataḥ ||
vināśe śālvarājasya tadaivākaravaṃ matim ||
tato 'haṃ bharataśreṣṭha samāśvāsya pure janam ||
rājānam āhukaṃ caiva tathaivānakadundubhim ||
sarvavṛṣṇipravīrāṃś ca harṣayann abruvaṃ tadā ||
apramādaḥ sadā kāryo nagare yādavarṣabhāḥ ||
śālvarājavināśāya prayātaṃ māṃ nibodhata ||
nāhatvā taṃ nivartiṣye purīṃ dvāravatīṃ prati ||
saśālvaṃ saubhanagaraṃ hatvā draṣṭāsmi vaḥ punaḥ ||
trisāmā hanyatām eṣā dundubhiḥ śatrubhīṣaṇī ||
Vasudeva said: "When your rajasuya sacrifice had concluded, I returned to the now-liberated city of the Anartas and found Dvaraka dimmed: no Vedic recitations or ritual cries of vashat sounded, the finest women wore no ornaments, and the gardens had become unrecognizable. Troubled, I asked Hardikya what had happened, and he related in full the siege by Shalva and the city's deliverance. Hearing everything, I resolved at once to destroy Shalva. I reassured the citizens, king Ahuka, Anakadundubhi, and the heroes of the Vrishnis, and said: 'Keep the city ever vigilant. I set out to destroy king Shalva and will not return until I have razed Saubha together with him. Let the war-drums be struck, dreadful to our enemies.'"
