Translation

Draupadi said: 'Homage to Dhatri and Vidhatri, if it is they who wrought such delusion in you: when the path of fathers and forefathers must be borne, your mind goes otherwise. In this world a man does not attain prosperity by dharma alone, by non-cruelty, patience, honesty, and compassion. How else could such an unbearable calamity have come upon you, which neither you nor your mighty brothers deserve? Nothing has ever been dearer to you than dharma, not even life. Your kingdom exists for the sake of dharma, and your life for the sake of dharma; this the brahmins, the teachers, and the gods know. I think you would sooner forsake Bhima, Arjuna, the twins, and me than forsake dharma. It is said that dharma protects the king who protects it; but it seems it did not protect you. Your mind always follows dharma, as a shadow follows a man; having gained the whole earth, you did not grow proud nor scorn anyone.'
