यथा स हृतदर्पश् च हृततेजाश् च पाण्डव ॥
भविष्यति सुखं हन्तुं सत्यम् एतद् ब्रवीमि ते ॥
एवम् एतत् करिष्यामि यथा तात त्वम् आत्थ माम् ॥
यच् चान्यद् अपि शक्ष्यामि तत् करिष्यामि ते प्रियम् ॥
यच् च दुःखं त्वया प्राप्तं द्यूते वै कृष्णया सह ॥
परुषाणि च वाक्यानि सूतपुत्रकृतानि वै ॥
जटासुरात् परिक्लेशः कीचकाच् च महाद्युते ॥
द्रौपद्याधिगतं सर्वं दमयन्त्या यथाशुभम् ॥
सर्वं दुःखम् इदं वीर सुखोदर्कं भविष्यति ॥
नात्र मन्युस् त्वया कार्यो विधिर् हि बलवत्तरः ॥
yathā sa hṛtadarpaś ca hṛtatejāś ca pāṇḍava ||
bhaviṣyati sukhaṃ hantuṃ satyam etad bravīmi te ||
evam etat kariṣyāmi yathā tāta tvam āttha mām ||
yac cānyad api śakṣyāmi tat kariṣyāmi te priyam ||
yac ca duḥkhaṃ tvayā prāptaṃ dyūte vai kṛṣṇayā saha ||
paruṣāṇi ca vākyāni sūtaputrakṛtāni vai ||
jaṭāsurāt parikleśaḥ kīcakāc ca mahādyute ||
draupadyādhigataṃ sarvaṃ damayantyā yathāśubham ||
sarvaṃ duḥkham idaṃ vīra sukhodarkaṃ bhaviṣyati ||
nātra manyus tvayā kāryo vidhir hi balavattaraḥ ||
In this case, if you wish to do me good, you must protect Arjuna. O king, you must also act so that Karna, the son of a suta, is disheartened, and victory may be ours. Doubtless this is not right; but, O my uncle, for the sake of all this you must do it." Shalya said: "Well spoken to you. Listen, O son of Pandu. You bid me act so that the vile son of a suta loses heart in battle. Indeed, I shall be his charioteer on the field of battle, since he always considers me equal to Krishna. O tiger-like descendant of Kuru, I shall certainly speak to him, when I wish to fight on the battlefield, words that are contradictory and fraught with harm for him, so that, deprived of pride and valor, he may easily be slain by his adversary. This I tell you truly. At your request I am resolved to do this, my son. Whatever else I am able to do, I shall do for your good. Whatever sorrows you endured together with Draupadi on the occasion of the game of dice, the harsh, inhuman words spoken by the son of a suta, the sufferings inflicted by the Asura Jata and by Kichaka, O illustrious one — all the sufferings undergone by Draupadi, like those once endured by Damayanti — all this, O hero, will end in joy.
