दुःखानि हि महात्मानः प्राप्नुवन्ति युधिष्ठिर ॥
देवैर् अपि हि दुःखानि प्राप्तानि जगतीपते ॥
इन्द्रेण श्रूयते राजन् सभार्येण महात्मना ॥
अनुभूतं महद् दुःखं देवराजेन भारत ॥
duḥkhāni hi mahātmānaḥ prāpnuvanti yudhiṣṭhira ||
devair api hi duḥkhāni prāptāni jagatīpate ||
indreṇa śrūyate rājan sabhāryeṇa mahātmanā ||
anubhūtaṃ mahad duḥkhaṃ devarājena bhārata ||
You should not grieve over this; for Fate is all-powerful in this world; and, O Yudhishthira, noble men must endure various misfortunes — indeed, even the gods themselves, O king, have suffered misfortunes. O king, O descendant of Bharata, it is told that the noble Indra, chief of the gods, had to endure, together with his wife, very great suffering.
