प्रतिज्ञाते तु पार्थे सिन्धुराधे दा
वासुदेवो हाबाहुर् नंयम् भा
भ्रातॄणां तम् ज्ञा त्वया वाचा प्रतिश्रुतम्
सैन्धवं श्वो ऽस्मि न्तेति तत् सामं कृतम्
संन्त्र्य या सार्धम् तिभारो ऽयम् द्यतः
थं नु र्वलोस्य नाहास्या वेहि

pratijñāte tu rthena sindhujavadhe ta ||
sudevo mahur dhanaṃjayam abhāṣata ||
bhrātṝṇāṃ matam ājñāya tva pratiśrutam ||
saindhavaṃ śvo 'smi hanteti tat sāhasatamaṃ kṛtam ||
asaṃmantrya ma rdham atibhāro 'yam udyataḥ ||
kathaṃ nu sarvalokasya vasyā bhavemahi ||

Translation

When Partha had made the vow to kill the king of Sindhu, mighty-armed Vasudeva said to Dhananjaya: "Taking in the thought of your brothers, you promised in words: 'Tomorrow I shall strike down the Sindhian.' This was done most rashly, without conferring with me: an immense burden has been taken up. How shall we not become a laughingstock before all the world?"
