ज्याघोषो ब्रह्मघोषश् तोरासिध्वनिः
द्रोस्यासीद् वितो गृहे तन् शृणोम्य् हम्
नानादेमुत्थानां गीतानां यो ऽवत् स्वनः
वादित्रनादितानां सो ऽद्य श्रूते हान्

jyāghoṣo brahmaghoṣaś ca tomasirathadhvaniḥ ||
droṇasyād avirato gṛhe tan na śṛṇomy aham ||
deśasamutthānāṃ nāṃ yo 'bhavat svanaḥ ||
ditradināṃ ca so 'dya na śrūyate mahān ||

Translation

"The twang of the bowstring and the sound of the Vedas, the din of javelins, swords, and chariots, were unceasing in Drona's house — I no longer hear that in [his] house. Whatever was the sound of songs arising [from] various lands, and of resounding [musical] instruments — it is not heard now, that great sound."
