ततः शङ्खम् उपाध्माय त्वरयन् वाजिनः स्वयम् ॥
इतस् ततस् तान् रचयन् द्रोणश् चरति वेगितः ॥
तेष्व् अनीकेषु सर्वेषु स्थितेष्व् आहवनन्दिषु ॥
भारद्वाजो महाराज जयद्रथम् अथाब्रवीत् ॥

Translation
Then, having blown the conch, urging on the horses himself, arranging them here and there, Drona moves swiftly. When all those troops, rejoicing in battle, had taken their stand, the son of Bharadvaja, O great king, then said to Jayadratha.

Drona shows the image of an active commander: "svayaṃ... racayan... vegitaḥ," he himself, swiftly, arrays the troops. The teacher does not command from afar but labors among the ranks. It is telling that this personal diligence goes toward arranging a formation to shield a single man. The verse teaches that a leader is called not to detached command but to living participation in the task: Drona himself rushes about, arraying the army; yet this effort, for all its skill, is aimed at sheltering the guilty -- and so his mastery, lacking rightness of purpose, is doomed before Him with whom the Lord stands.
