संजय उवाच
तस्मिंस् तथा वर्तमाने नराश्वगजसंक्षये ॥
दुःशासनो महाराज धृष्टद्युम्नम् अयोधयत् ॥
स तु रुक्मरथासक्तो दुःशासनशरार्दितः ॥
अमर्षात् तव पुत्रस्य शरैर् वाहान् अवाकिरत् ॥
क्षणेन स रथस् तस्य सध्वजः सहसारथिः ॥
नादृश्यत महाराज पार्षतस्य शरैश् चितः ॥
दुःशासनस् तु राजेन्द्र पाञ्चाल्यस्य महात्मनः ॥
नाशकत् प्रमुखे स्थातुं शरजालप्रपीडितः ॥

tasmiṃs tathā vartamāne narāśvagajasaṃkṣaye ||
duḥśāsano mahārāja dhṛṣṭadyumnam ayodhayat ||
sa tu rukmarathāsakto duḥśāsanaśarārditaḥ ||
amarṣāt tava putrasya śarair vāhān avākirat ||
kṣaṇena sa rathas tasya sadhvajaḥ sahasārathiḥ ||
nādṛśyata mahārāja pārṣatasya śaraiś citaḥ ||
duḥśāsanas tu rājendra pāñcālyasya mahātmanaḥ ||
nāśakat pramukhe sthātuṃ śarajālaprapīḍitaḥ ||
As the destruction of men, horses, and elephants thus proceeded, great king, Duhshasana fought with Dhrishtadyumna. But he, having grappled with the golden chariot, hard pressed by the arrows of Duhshasana, in indignation toward your son showered arrows upon his horses. In an instant his chariot, with banner and charioteer, became invisible, great king, strewn with the arrows of Parshata [Dhrishtadyumna]. And Duhshasana, lord of kings, could not stand before the great-souled Panchala prince, hard pressed by a net of arrows.

Dhrishtadyumna showers the enemy's chariot until it vanishes behind the arrows — fearsome is he who was born for Drona's destruction. It is telling that even Duhshasana, ordinarily bold, cannot hold his ground. The verse teaches that one destined for a great task shows disproportionate strength even in small skirmishes; and the shadow of fate shows through in how easily he sweeps aside the barriers on the path to his appointed end.
