एवम् उक्तः स गन्धर्वः कुन्तीपुत्रं धनंजयम् ॥
विश्रुतां त्रिषु लोकेषु श्रावयाम् आस वै कथाम् ॥
गन्धर्व उवाच
हन्त ते कथयिष्यामि कथाम् एतां मनोरमाम् ॥
यथावद् अखिलां पार्थ धर्म्यां धर्मभृतां वर ॥
उक्तवान् अस्मि येन त्वां तापत्य इति यद् वचः ॥
तत् ते ऽहं कथयिष्यामि शृणुष्वैकमना मम ॥

evam uktaḥ sa gandharvaḥ kuntīputraṃ dhanaṃjayam ||
viśrutāṃ triṣu lokeṣu śrāvayām āsa vai kathām ||

hanta te kathayiṣyāmi kathām etāṃ manoramām ||
yathāvad akhilāṃ pārtha dharmyāṃ dharmabhṛtāṃ vara ||
uktavān asmi yena tvāṃ tāpatya iti yad vacaḥ ||
tat te 'haṃ kathayiṣyāmi śṛṇuṣvaikamanā mama ||

Traducción

Vaishampayana said: «Thus addressed, that gandharva related to the son of Kunti, Dhanañjaya, the tale renowned in the three worlds». The gandharva said: «Well then, I shall tell you this delightful tale in full, just as it is, O Partha, righteous, O best of the upholders of dharma. The word by which I called you "Tāpatya" — that I shall tell you; listen to me with a focused mind».
