वारयाम् आस सर्वाणि वादित्राणि समन्ततः ॥

Traducción

Here the worldly contest is framed by a sacred rite. It is significant that before it begins, offerings are poured into the fire and the brahmins are blessed: even the choosing of a husband is consecrated by sacrifice and prayer. A good undertaking should be preceded by ritual, calling down blessing from above. Significant, too, is the silence that settles: before a sacred act, all commotion falls still. The text thus reveals that the svayamvara is not mere entertainment, but an act consecrated by fire and mantra; and into the newly fallen silence the challenge will now sound.
