तत् प्रेक्ष्य कर्मातिमनुष्यबुद्धेर्; जिष्णोः सहभ्रातुर् अचिन्त्यकर्मा ॥
दामोदरो भ्रातरम् उग्रवीर्यं; हलायुधं वाक्यम् इदं बभाषे ॥
य एष मत्तर्षभतुल्यगामी; महद् धनुः कर्षति तालमात्रम् ॥
एषो ऽर्जुनो नात्र विचार्यम् अस्ति; यद्य् अस्मि संकर्षण वासुदेवः ॥
tat prekṣya karmātimanuṣyabuddher; jiṣṇoḥ sahabhrātur acintyakarmā ||
dāmodaro bhrātaram ugravīryaṃ; halāyudhaṃ vākyam idaṃ babhāṣe ||
ya eṣa mattarṣabhatulyagāmī; mahad dhanuḥ karṣati tālamātram ||
eṣo 'rjuno nātra vicāryam asti; yady asmi saṃkarṣaṇa vāsudevaḥ ||
Krishna said [to Balarama]: "Seeing that deed of Jishnu, of superhuman intelligence, together with his brother, Damodara spoke this word to his brother Halayudha, terrible in valor: 'That one who strides like a maddened bull and draws the great bow the length of a palm tree -- that is Arjuna; there is no doubt of it, as certain as that I, o Sankarshana, am Vasudeva.'"

Here the Lord recognizes His own by the very deed. Telling is how firm Krishna's assurance is: "this is Arjuna, as certain as that I am Vasudeva" -- He does not guess, He knows. Here is disclosed the Lord's full knowledge of His devotees: where others marvel at an unknown brahmin, He names him outright. So the text shows Krishna's recognition of His friend Arjuna; and the feat that astonished everyone else is for Him merely a sign by which He knows the one He loves.
