Here it is revealed that Krishna had long known of their escape. It is telling that He, remembering the news of the Pandavas' deliverance from the house of lac, now only confirms them with His own eyes: the Lord never lost sight of His own, even in their concealment. Here is Krishna's providential care: even when the world thinks His devotees dead, He knows them living. So the text shows that the fate of the Lord's people is never hidden from Him; and His recognition of the Pandavas only confirms what He already knew.
