भवान् वा विधिवत् पाणिं गृह्णातु दुहितुर् मम ॥

Here the father generously entrusts the choice to the eldest. It is significant that Drupada, not insisting on Arjuna, leaves the decision to Yudhishthira: he trusts the judgment of the righteous head of the family. Here is a father-in-law's humility and trust in his daughter's future family. Thus the text reveals Drupada's yielding; and this trust will call forth an answer he did not expect.
