शतं सहस्रं विश्वं च सर्वम् अक्षयवाचकम् ॥
परिमाणं शतं त्व् एतन् नैतद् अक्षयवाचकम् ॥

Here even punishment is given a limit by mercy. It is significant that the brahmin interprets 'hundred' as a [finite] number, not as 'infinity': the curse is bounded by a term. Mercy softens the sentence by setting an end to it. Thus the scripture reveals the moderation of punishment; and beyond it deliverance already glimmers.
