जरितारौ कुलं हीदं ज्येष्ठत्वेन प्रतिष्ठितम् ॥
सारिसृक्वः प्रजायेत पितॄणां कुलवर्धनः ॥
स्तम्बमित्रस् तपः कुर्याद् द्रोणो ब्रह्मविद् उत्तमः ॥
इत्य् एवम् उक्त्वा प्रययौ पिता वो निर्घृणः पुरा ॥

Here the mother recalls with bitterness the father's neglect. The word "merciless" is telling: Mandapala, having pronounced the destinies of his sons, left them and departed — his fatherly care reduced to words alone. Here sounds a reproach against empty words without deeds: a blessing unbacked by care amounts to little. Thus the scripture reveals Jarita's bitterness; and the father's neglect only magnifies her devotion.
