Here the children display a wisdom surpassing their years. It is telling that the fledglings reason about the good of the lineage above their own lives: true wisdom lies not in age but in the light of understanding. Telling too is their self-denial: they call on their mother to save herself, sacrificing themselves. Here is a wondrous maturity of souls in small bodies. Thus the scripture reveals the wisdom and self-sacrifice of the children; and their counsel surpasses the mother's blind love.
