स्तम्बमित्र उवाच
सर्वम् अग्ने त्वम् एवैकस् त्वयि सर्वम् इदं जगत् ॥
त्वं धारयसि भूतानि भुवनं त्वं बिभर्षि च ॥
त्वम् अग्निर् हव्यवाहस् त्वं त्वम् एव परमं हविः ॥
मनीषिणस् त्वां यजन्ते बहुधा चैकधैव च ॥
stambamitra uvāca
sarvam agne tvam evaikas tvayi sarvam idaṃ jagat ||
tvaṃ dhārayasi bhūtāni bhuvanaṃ tvaṃ bibharṣi ca ||
tvam agnir havyavāhas tvaṃ tvam eva paramaṃ haviḥ ||
manīṣiṇas tvāṃ yajante bahudhā caikadhaiva ca ||
Stambamitra said: "All, Agni, you alone are; in you is this whole world; you sustain all beings and bear the universe; you are Agni, the bearer of oblations; you are also the highest offering itself; the wise offer sacrifice to you -- both in many forms, and in one alone."

Here Agni is contemplated as the one that encompasses all. It is significant that he is both the bearer of the offering and the offering itself: the offerer and the offered are one. Herein lies the truth of the One: the priest, the offering, and the receiver are all in Him; behind the diversity of rites stands worship of the One. Thus scripture reveals unity in Agni -- and the many and the one converge in Him.
