द्रोण उवाच
सूर्यो भूत्वा रश्मिभिर् जातवेदो; भूमेर् अम्भो भूमिजातान् रसांश् च ॥
विश्वान् आदाय पुनर् उत्सर्गकाले; सृष्ट्वा वृष्ट्या भावयसीह शुक्र ॥
त्वत्त एताः पुनः शुक्र वीरुधो हरितच्छदाः ॥
जायन्ते पुष्करिण्यश् च समुद्रश् च महोदधिः ॥
droṇa uvāca
sūryo bhūtvā raśmibhir jātavedo; bhūmer ambho bhūmijātān rasāṃś ca ||
viśvān ādāya punar utsargakāle; sṛṣṭvā vṛṣṭyā bhāvayasīha śukra ||
tvatta etāḥ punaḥ śukra vīrudho haritacchadāḥ ||
jāyante puṣkariṇyaś ca samudraś ca mahodadhiḥ ||
Drona said: "Becoming the sun, with your rays, O Jatavedas, you draw up the water of the earth and all the saps born of the earth; having taken all, again, at the time of release, having made it into rain, you nourish them here, O Shukra; from you, O Shukra, these plants again, green-leaved, are born, and the lotus ponds, and the sea, the great ocean."

Here Agni is perceived as the mover of nature's cycle. It is significant that, like the sun, he draws up the waters and returns them as rain, nourishing life: one power governs the cycling of the elements. Behind the cycle of nature stands a single divine orderer. Thus scripture reveals the wise design of the universe -- and praise rises to the One who moves it.
