के चिद् धि सौहृदाद् एव दोषं न परिचक्षते ॥
अर्थहेतोस् तथैवान्ये प्रियम् एव वदन्त्य् उत ॥
प्रियम् एव परीप्सन्ते के चिद् आत्मनि यद् धितम् ॥
एवंप्रायाश् च दृश्यन्ते जनवादाः प्रयोजने ॥
त्वं तु हेतून् अतीत्यैतान् कामक्रोधौ व्यतीत्य च ॥
परमं नः क्षमं लोके यथावद् वक्तुम् अर्हसि ॥

ke cid dhi sauhṛdād eva doṣaṃ na paricakṣate ||
arthahetos tathaivānye priyam eva vadanty uta ||
priyam eva parīpsante ke cid ātmani yad dhitam ||
evaṃprāyāś ca dṛśyante janavādāḥ prayojane ||
tvaṃ tu hetūn atītyaitān kāmakrodhau vyatītya ca ||
paramaṃ naḥ kṣamaṃ loke yathāvad vaktum arhasi ||

जन-वादाः प्रयोजनेjana-vādāḥ prayojanemen's opinions in a matter;
त्वम् तु हेतून् अतीत्य एतान्tvam tu hetūn atītya etānyou, however, having risen above these motives,
काम-क्रोधौ व्यतीत्य चkāma-krodhau vyatītya caand having risen above desire and anger,
परमम् नः क्षमम् लोकेparamam naḥ kṣamam lokewhat is supremely fitting for us in the world
यथावत् वक्तुम् अर्हसिyathāvat vaktum arhasiare worthy to declare as it should be."

"For some, out of friendship alone, do not point out a flaw; others, for the sake of gain, speak only what is pleasant; others still seek only their own pleasure — whatever is good for themselves; such, ordinarily, are men's opinions in a matter. You, however, having risen above these motives, having risen above desire and anger, alone are worthy to tell us, as it should be, what is supremely fitting in the world."
