नैतच् चित्रं महाबाहो त्वयि देवकिनन्दन ॥
भीमार्जुनबलोपेते धर्मस्य परिपालनम् ॥
जरासंधह्रदे घोरे दुःखपङ्के निमज्जताम् ॥
राज्ञां समभ्युद्धरणं यद् इदं कृतम् अद्य ते ॥
विष्णो समवसन्नानां गिरिदुर्गे सुदारुणे ॥
दिष्ट्या मोक्षाद् यशो दीप्तम् आप्तं ते पुरुषोत्तम ॥
naitac citraṃ mahābāho tvayi devakinandana ||
bhīmārjunabalopete dharmasya paripālanam ||
jarāsaṃdhahrade ghore duḥkhapaṅke nimajjatām ||
rājñāṃ samabhyuddharaṇaṃ yad idaṃ kṛtam adya te ||
viṣṇo samavasannānāṃ giridurge sudāruṇe ||
diṣṭyā mokṣād yaśo dīptam āptaṃ te puruṣottama ||
"This is no wonder, O mighty-armed one, O son of Devaki, that in you, endowed with the strength of Bhima and Arjuna, dwells the guarding of dharma. What you have accomplished today is the deliverance of kings who were sinking in the dreadful lake of Jarasandha, in the mire of sorrow. O Vishnu, you have freed us who languished in that most terrible mountain fortress; by good fortune bright glory has been attained by you, O Purushottama."

The kings call the Deliverer Vishnu and Purushottama -- and by the mouths of the rescued it is confessed who stands before them. Telling is their word "no wonder": for the One in whom dharma itself finds its support, the guarding of the righteous is as natural as light is to the sun. The image of the lake and the mire of sorrow, from which he draws out the drowning, reveals the Lord's eternal work: to rescue from the depths of suffering those who have surrendered to him. The verse teaches that the true glory of the Supreme lies not in the might of destruction but in the salvation of the perishing.
