You, like a child, repeatedly laughed, O king, at the Pandavas when they suffered defeat at dice and went into exile. When Arjuna pours down a rain of sharp arrows, even the oceans dry up, let alone beings of flesh and blood. Phalguna is the best of archers; the Gandiva is the greatest of all bows; Keshava is the greatest of all beings; the Sudarshana is the best of all weapons; and among chariots, foremost are those bearing the standard of the blazing monkey.

The fragment 5.54.26-30 develops the central theme of the Udyoga-parva: the effort toward peace is already underway against the background of an inevitable war. Key themes: the Pandavas. Dharma is revealed here through speech, the choice of embassy, faithfulness to promises, and the responsibility of kings for the consequences of their decisions.
