निघ्नन् रथवराश्वौघांश् छादयाम् आस वाहिनीम् ॥
sanistriṃśapurovātaḥ śaktiprāsarṣṭisaṃvṛtaḥ ||
jyāvidyuc cāpasaṃhrādo dhṛṣṭadyumnabalāhakaḥ ||
śaradhārāśmavarṣāṇi vyasṛjat sarvatodiśam ||
nighnan rathavarāśvaughāṃś chādayām āsa vāhinīm ||
With his sword as his fore-wind, surrounded by javelins, darts, and blades, with bowstring as lightning and bow as thunder, the cloud that was Dhrishtadyumna poured out streams of arrows, [like] a rain of stones, in every direction; striking down streams of the finest chariots and horses, he screened the army [with himself].

The same storm-metaphor once applied to Drona is now turned upon Dhrishtadyumna: 'dhṛṣṭadyumnabalāhakaḥ,' the cloud that is Dhrishtadyumna. Two equals are likened to the same element. It is telling that the description mirrors the earlier one: the poet deliberately shows their likeness. The verse teaches that opponents who have reached equal heights reflect one another like two thunderclouds: their clash is the meeting of equal elemental forces; and in this mirrored greatness there is no 'better' — there is only destiny, which will one day tip the scale.
