प्रविष्टयोर् महाराज पार्थवार्ष्णेययोस् तदा ॥
दुर्योधने प्रयाते च पृष्ठतः पुरुषर्षभे ॥
जवेनाभ्यद्रवन् द्रोणं महता निस्वनेन च ॥
पाण्डवाः सोमकैः सार्धं ततो युद्धम् अवर्तत ॥

When, O great king, the two — the Partha and the Varshneya — had entered [deep within], and Duryodhana, bull among men, went forth behind them, the Pandavas together with the Somakas rushed at Drona swiftly, with a great roar; then the battle was joined.

While Arjuna and Krishna press deep toward their goal, another battle flares at the front of the array: the Pandavas surge against Drona. It is telling that war is waged on many fronts at once — the main breakthrough and the holding action at the line. The verse teaches that a great undertaking needs not one hero but many acting as one: while one presses toward the heart of things, others bind the enemy's strength at the gate; and victory is forged in the accord of those who break through and those who cover the breach.
