स संनद्धो महाबाहुर् आचार्येण महात्मना ॥
रथानां च सहस्रेण त्रिगर्तानां प्रहारिणाम् ॥
तथा दन्तिसहस्रेण मत्तानां वीर्यशालिनाम् ॥
अश्वानाम् अयुतेनैव तथान्यैश् च महारथैः ॥
वृतः प्रायान् महाबाहुर् अर्जुनस्य रथं प्रति ॥
नानावादित्रघोषेण यथा वैरोचनिस् तथा ॥
ततः शब्दो महान् आसीत् सैन्यानां तव भारत ॥
अगाधं प्रस्थितं दृष्ट्वा समुद्रम् इव कौरवम् ॥
sa saṃnaddho mahābāhur ācāryeṇa mahātmanā ||
rathānāṃ ca sahasreṇa trigartānāṃ prahāriṇām ||
tathā dantisahasreṇa mattānāṃ vīryaśālinām ||
aśvānām ayutenaiva tathānyaiś ca mahārathaiḥ ||
vṛtaḥ prāyān mahābāhur arjunasya rathaṃ prati ||
nānāvāditraghoṣeṇa yathā vairocanis tathā ||
tataḥ śabdo mahān āsīt sainyānāṃ tava bhārata ||
agādhaṃ prasthitaṃ dṛṣṭvā samudram iva kauravam ||
He, the mighty-armed one, vested by the great-souled teacher, surrounded by a thousand chariots of the striking Trigartas, a thousand rutting, valiant elephants, ten thousand horses, and other great warriors, advanced toward Arjuna's chariot amid the din of manifold instruments, like [once] Vairochani [Bali]. Then arose a great clamor among your troops, O Bharata, seeing [Duryodhana] the Kaurava advance against the unfathomable one, as against the ocean.

The chapter closes with Duryodhana's advance — in invulnerable armor, with countless troops — 'agādhaṃ… samudram iva', '[against] the unfathomable one, as against the ocean.' The image is exact: he goes against Arjuna as against an ocean that cannot be emptied. It is telling that all this might and invulnerability are turned against a depth overshadowed by the Lord. The verse teaches that unrighteousness, however armed, goes forth against the immeasurable: to rise against one shielded by God is to try to empty the ocean; and however much armor or however many troops there are, the outcome is already sealed, for against the 'unfathomable' both invulnerability and numbers are powerless.
