नानाविधैश् च शस्त्रौघैः पात्यमानैर् महारणे ॥
न संधिः शक्यते भेत्तुं वर्मबन्धस्य तस्य तु ॥
ततो जघान समरे वृत्रं देवपतिः स्वयम् ॥
तं च मत्रमयं बन्धं वर्म चाङ्गिरसे ददौ ॥
अङ्गिराः प्राह पुत्रस्य मन्त्रज्ञस्य बृहस्पतेः ॥
बृहस्पतिर् अथोवाच अग्निवेश्याय धीमते ॥

nānāvidhaiś ca śastraughaiḥ pātyamānair mahāraṇe ||
na saṃdhiḥ śakyate bhettuṃ varmabandhasya tasya tu ||
tato jaghāna samare vṛtraṃ devapatiḥ svayam ||
taṃ ca matramayaṃ bandhaṃ varma cāṅgirase dadau ||
aṅgirāḥ prāha putrasya mantrajñasya bṛhaspateḥ ||
bṛhaspatir athovāca agniveśyāya dhīmate ||

"And by the manifold streams of weapons hurled in the great battle, the joint of that armor's binding could not be pierced. Then the lord of the gods himself slew Vritra in battle; and he gave that binding wrought by mantra, and the armor, to Angiras. Angiras told this to his son, Brihaspati, knower of mantras; Brihaspati then told it to the wise Agnivesya."
