नादास्यच् चेद् वरं मह्यं भवान् पाण्डवनिग्रहे ॥
नावारयिष्यं गच्छन्तम् अहं सिन्धुपतिं गृहान् ॥
मया त्व् आशंसमानेन त्वत्तस् त्राणम् अबुद्धिना ॥
आश्वासितः सिन्धुपतिर् मोहाद् दत्तश् च मृत्यवे ॥

Traducción
"If you had not granted me a boon in the matter of subduing the Pandavas, I would not have held back the lord of Sindhu, departing homeward. Yet by me, foolish, who hoped for protection from you, the lord of Sindhu was reassured, and in delusion given over to death."

Here Duryodhana unwittingly blames himself: "mayā... abuddhinā... āśvāsitaḥ sindhupatiḥ mohāt dattaḥ mṛtyave", "I, the foolish one, in delusion reassured and delivered Jayadratha to death". Trusting in another's protection, he kept his brother-in-law from a saving flight. It is telling that the guilt for Jayadratha's death lies on himself. The verse teaches that reliance on unreliable support destroys those who trust it: whoever, relying on mortal protection, dissuades another from escaping thereby delivers him to death; and "moha", delusion born of false reliance, turns one who loves into a destroyer.
