उत्स्मयन् वृष्णिशार्दूलस् तथा बाणैः समाहतः ॥
तान् अविध्यन् महाराज सर्वान् एव त्रिभिस् त्रिभिः ॥
गाढविद्धान् अरीन् कृत्वा मार्गणैः सो ऽतितेजनैः ॥
शैनेयः श्येनवत् संख्ये व्यचरल् लघुविक्रमः ॥
सौबलस्य धनुश् छित्त्वा हस्तावापं निकृत्य च ॥
दुर्योधनं त्रिभिर् बाणैर् अभ्यविध्यत् स्तनान्तरे ॥
चित्रसेनं शतेनैव दशभिर् दुःसहं तथा ॥
दुःशासनं च विंशत्या विव्याध शिनिपुंगवः ॥
utsmayan vṛṣṇiśārdūlas tathā bāṇaiḥ samāhataḥ ||
tān avidhyan mahārāja sarvān eva tribhis tribhiḥ ||
gāḍhaviddhān arīn kṛtvā mārgaṇaiḥ so 'titejanaiḥ ||
śaineyaḥ śyenavat saṃkhye vyacaral laghuvikramaḥ ||
saubalasya dhanuś chittvā hastāvāpaṃ nikṛtya ca ||
duryodhanaṃ tribhir bāṇair abhyavidhyat stanāntare ||
citrasenaṃ śatenaiva daśabhir duḥsahaṃ tathā ||
duḥśāsanaṃ ca viṃśatyā vivyādha śinipuṃgavaḥ ||
Smiling, the tiger of the Vṛṣṇis, thus struck by arrows, pierced them, O great king, all of them, with three each. Having pierced the enemies deeply with exceedingly sharp arrows, the Śineya, like a hawk in battle, moved about, light in his onslaught. Having cut Saubala's [Śakuni's] bow and severed his armlet, he struck Duryodhana [in] the chest with three arrows; Citrasena with a full hundred, Duḥsaha likewise with ten, and Duḥśāsana with twenty did the bull [of the] Śini [clan] pierce.

Satyaki answers them all "utsmayan," with a smile, and moves "śyenavat… laghuvikramaḥ," like a light hawk: the calm ease of a master amid the onslaught of many. It is telling that even under a hail of arrows he loses nothing of his poise. The verse teaches that one who has mastered his art keeps his ease even when surrounded: where others strain and fear, the master smiles and moves with darting lightness — for a collected spirit turns the hard labor of battle into something like play.
