बीभत्सुर् भीमसेनेन सात्वतेन च रक्षितः ॥
स बभौ भरतश्रेष्ठ ज्वलन्न् इव हुताशनः ॥
तं तथावस्थितं दृष्ट्वा त्वदीया वीर्यसंमताः ॥
नामृष्यन्त महेष्वासाः फल्गुनं पुरुषर्षभाः ॥
दुर्योधनश् च कर्णश् च वृषसेनो ऽथ मद्रराट् ॥
अश्वत्थामा कृपश् चैव स्वयम् एव च सैन्धवः ॥
संरब्धाः सैन्धवस्यार्थे समावृण्वन् किरीटिनम् ॥
नृत्यन्तं रथमार्गेषु धनुर्ज्यातलनिस्वनैः ॥
bībhatsur bhīmasenena sātvatena ca rakṣitaḥ ||
sa babhau bharataśreṣṭha jvalann iva hutāśanaḥ ||
taṃ tathāvasthitaṃ dṛṣṭvā tvadīyā vīryasaṃmatāḥ ||
nāmṛṣyanta maheṣvāsāḥ phalgunaṃ puruṣarṣabhāḥ ||
duryodhanaś ca karṇaś ca vṛṣaseno 'tha madrarāṭ ||
aśvatthāmā kṛpaś caiva svayam eva ca saindhavaḥ ||
saṃrabdhāḥ saindhavasyārthe samāvṛṇvan kirīṭinam ||
nṛtyantaṃ rathamārgeṣu dhanurjyātalanisvanaiḥ ||
Bibhatsu, protected by Bhimasena and by Satvata [Satyaki], shone, O best of the Bharatas, like a blazing fire. Seeing him thus standing, your great archers, honored for valor, bull-like men, could not endure Phalguna. Duryodhana and Karna, Vrishasena, then the king of Madra [and the others], enraged, surrounded the Diademed one for Saindhava's sake, as he danced on the chariot-paths to the twang of the bowstring and the clap of the palm.

Arjuna, guarded by Bhima and Satyaki, shines like flame, and his fighting is like a dance to the twang of the bowstring: supreme mastery is as effortless as dancing. It is telling that his brothers shield him — the feat of one rests on the faithfulness of his companions. The verse teaches that even the greatest hero is not alone; his valor is set in the company of friends, and the harmony of those who guard him lets him shine and "dance" where another would be buried under the assault of seven.
