ततो भीमो महाबाहुः सात्यकिश् च महारथः ॥
अभिवाद्य गुरुं ज्येष्ठं मार्गणैः क्षतविक्षतौ ॥
स्थिताव् आस्तां महेष्वासौ पाञ्चाल्यैः परिवारितौ ॥
तौ दृष्ट्व मुदितौ वीरौ प्राञ्जली चाग्रतः स्थितौ ॥
अभ्यनन्दत कौन्तेयस् ताव् उभौ भीमसात्यकी ॥
दिष्ट्या पश्यामि वां वीरौ विमुक्तौ सैन्यसागरात् ॥
द्रोणग्राहाद् दुराधर्षाद् धार्दिक्यमकरालयात् ॥
दिष्ट्या च निर्जिताः संख्ये पृथिव्यां सर्वपार्थिवाः ॥
tato bhīmo mahābāhuḥ sātyakiś ca mahārathaḥ ||
abhivādya guruṃ jyeṣṭhaṃ mārgaṇaiḥ kṣatavikṣatau ||
sthitāv āstāṃ maheṣvāsau pāñcālyaiḥ parivāritau ||
tau dṛṣṭva muditau vīrau prāñjalī cāgrataḥ sthitau ||
abhyanandata kaunteyas tāv ubhau bhīmasātyakī ||
diṣṭyā paśyāmi vāṃ vīrau vimuktau sainyasāgarāt ||
droṇagrāhād durādharṣād dhārdikyamakarālayāt ||
diṣṭyā ca nirjitāḥ saṃkhye pṛthivyāṃ sarvapārthivāḥ ||
Then the mighty-armed Bhima and Satyaki, the great warrior, wounded by arrows, greeted their elder brother and teacher [Yudhishthira]. Seeing those joyful heroes standing before him with joined palms, the Kaunteya greeted the two of them, Bhima and Satyaki: "Fortunately I see you, two heroes, who have broken free from the ocean of the army, from under the invincible crocodile Drona, from the lair of the makara Hardikya [Kritavarman]."

The wounded heroes bow first before their elder — respect for the head of the family outweighs one's own merits. Notable is that the army is likened to an ocean full of predatory monsters — Drona the crocodile, Kritavarman the makara: to emerge from it alive is a wonder. The verse teaches that even the greatest warriors honor seniority, bowing before the head of the family; and the joy of reunion with those who have escaped is dearer than any trophy — for those who are dear remain unharmed.
