अस्त्रैर् अस्त्राणि संवार्य लघुहस्तो धनंजयः ॥
सर्वान् अविध्यन् निशितैर् दशभिर् दशभिः शरैः ॥
उद्धूता रजसो वृष्टिः शरवृष्टिस् तथैव च ॥
तमश् च घोरं शब्दश् च तदा समभवन् महान् ॥
न द्यौर् न भूमिर् न दिशः प्राज्ञायन्त तथा गते ॥
सैन्येन रजसा मूढं सर्वम् अन्धम् इवाभवत् ॥
नैव ते न वयं राजन् प्रज्ञासिष्म परस्परम् ॥
उद्देशेन हि तेन स्म समयुध्यन्त पार्थिवाः ॥
astrair astrāṇi saṃvārya laghuhasto dhanaṃjayaḥ ||
sarvān avidhyan niśitair daśabhir daśabhiḥ śaraiḥ ||
uddhūtā rajaso vṛṣṭiḥ śaravṛṣṭis tathaiva ca ||
tamaś ca ghoraṃ śabdaś ca tadā samabhavan mahān ||
na dyaur na bhūmir na diśaḥ prājñāyanta tathā gate ||
sainyena rajasā mūḍhaṃ sarvam andham ivābhavat ||
naiva te na vayaṃ rājan prajñāsiṣma parasparam ||
uddeśena hi tena sma samayudhyanta pārthivāḥ ||
...having disregarded [them], O lord of kings, he showered them with rains of arrows. Having parried [their] weapons with weapons, nimble-handed Dhananjaya pierced all with sharp arrows, ten arrows each. A raised cloud of dust, and likewise a rain of arrows, and dreadful darkness, and noise then arose, great. Neither sky nor earth nor the directions were discerned in that state; darkened by the dust of the army, everything became as if blinded. Neither they nor we, O king, discerned one another.

Dust and arrows again veil the light -- the world "as if blinded." Notable is how even by day battle plunges into a likeness of night's darkness: war itself creates gloom. The verse teaches that fury blinds the sight even in daylight; and where rage reigns, all discernment is erased -- friend from foe, sky from earth. The darkness in which the blinded fight is a visible image of the derangement into which war casts the mind.
