विरथा रथिनो राजन् समासाद्य परस्परम् ॥
केषेशु समसज्जन्त कवचेषु भुजेषु च ॥
हताश्वा हतसूताश् च निश्चेष्टा रथिनस् तदा ॥
जीवन्त इव तत्र स्म व्यदृश्यन्त भयार्दिताः ॥
हतान् गजान् समाश्लिष्य पर्वतान् इव वाजिनः ॥
गतसत्त्वा व्यदृश्यन्त तथैव सह सादिभिः ॥
ततस् त्व् अभ्यवसृत्यैव संग्रामाद् उत्तरां दिशम् ॥
अतिष्ठद् आहवे द्रोणो विधूम इव पावकः ॥

virathā rathino rājan samāsādya parasparam ||
keṣeśu samasajjanta kavaceṣu bhujeṣu ca ||
hatāśvā hatasūtāś ca niśceṣṭā rathinas tadā ||
jīvanta iva tatra sma vyadṛśyanta bhayārditāḥ ||
hatān gajān samāśliṣya parvatān iva vājinaḥ ||
gatasattvā vyadṛśyanta tathaiva saha sādibhiḥ ||
tatas tv abhyavasṛtyaiva saṃgrāmād uttarāṃ diśam ||
atiṣṭhad āhave droṇo vidhūma iva pāvakaḥ ||

Traducción

For by that guess the kings fought. Horseless warriors, O king, having come together with one another, grappled by the hair, by armor, and by arms. With horses and charioteers slain, motionless warriors then were seen there as if alive, tormented by fear. Having embraced slain elephants, the horses -- like mountains -- were seen lifeless, together with their riders. Then, having withdrawn from the battle to the northern quarter...
