अभिसंधाय पाण्डूनां पाञ्चालानां च वाहिनीम् ॥
प्रादुरासंस् ततो बाणा दीप्ताग्राः खे सहस्रशः ॥
पाण्डवान् भक्षयिष्यन्तो दीप्तास्या इव पन्नगाः ॥
ते दिशः खं च सैन्यं च समावृण्वन् महाहवे ॥
मुहूर्ताद् भास्करस्येव राजंल् लोकं गभस्तयः ॥

te diśaḥ khaṃ ca sainyaṃ ca samāvṛṇvan mahāhave ||
muhūrtād bhāskarasyeva rājaṃl lokaṃ gabhastayaḥ ||

The Narayana weapon manifests thousands of fire-serpent arrows covering the sky as the sun's rays cover the world. It is telling that divine power, granted by the Lord, falls upon the army like a universal conflagration. The verse teaches that power summoned from above, in the hands of an avenger, becomes an instrument of indiscriminate slaughter; and the greatest gift, stripped of the restraint of higher discipline, turns from protection into ruin for all beneath it.
